Nandalal has here studied the figure of the Buddha in a standing position, painted on a pillar of cave no.10 of the Ajanta caves. Rendered in a quick succession of fluid strokes, the right hand of Buddha is in the Varada mudra or the gesture of compassion while with the left he holds one end of his robe.
