Nandalal has here rendered a sketch of the young prince Siddhartha, who is perhaps depicted here with his wife, as this is a scene related to the early life of the Buddha. As the inscription suggests, this particular sketch has been reproduced form part of a mural from cave no 16 of the Ajanta caves, in dark, linear pencil strokes.
