Nandalal has rendered a sketch of a lady delineated in soft, repetitive strokes, from part of a mural that depicts the life of the Buddha from cave no. 16 of the Ajanta caves, as the inscription suggests. This is one of the images from the life of the Buddha when he visited Rajagriha after his enlightenment. In this particular scene, Sujata bows in a respectful manner and offers food to the Buddha.
