Nandalal has here sketched a female figure, reproduced from part of the mural 'A Palace Scene- The Conception' from cave no.16 of the Ajanta caves. This particular sketch depicts a royal attendant who appears to be asleep beside a bed, probably of Queen Maya. Her head peacefully rests on her arm-the only visible part of her body. Rendered in bold and brisk pencil strokes, her facial features are beautifully portrayed by the artist.
