Nandalal has in this sketch, executed a group of drawings, the central composition being probably of a king and queen suggested by the elaborate crowns on their heads. The couple appears to be in conversation as they sit cross-legged next to each other. The king has made a certain gesture with his hands which the artist also renders as a template. At the bottom, there is a bust of a female figure in profile, probably an attendant. She looks up towards the couple with eagerness, as suggested by her gesture. Reproduced from cave no. 16 of the Ajanta caves, these sketches are rendered in dark brisk outlines, the coarse pencil strokes roughly highlighting the details.
