This image is a quick study of a bust of a monk, rendered in brisk outlines, the contours of the face attended with dark pencil strokes. As the inscription suggests, Nandalal has reproduced this sketch from part of the mural, 'The Buddha Preaching to the Congregation' from cave no.17 of the Ajanta caves.
