    Nandalal Bose

Sketch from Sketch Book No.22 - Ajanta Sketches 11057 Nandalal Bose Pencil on paper

×
Nandalal has here studied the stance of a male figure standing in the Tribhanga (tri-bent) pose, reproduced from part of a mural from cave no.17 of the Ajanta caves. A peculiar feature in the attire of the figure is the hat, unlike any other found in the Ajanta paintings, which suggests a Persian influence. The swaying garments worn by the subject are faintly portrayed by the artist in light strokes.
