This detailed anatomical sketch by Nandalal depicts the skeletal structure of the human pelvis, both male and female (as the inscriptions suggest), clearly labelled with each of its parts. The artist wanted to synthesise artistic visual expression with scientific fact and hence engaged with such minute attention to the form. He has here studied the structure of the pelvis from multiple angles to lend authenticity to his figurative renditions.
