Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. He also had a keen fascination for studying the architectural traits particular to different regions and also observed the modifications in them with the change in terrains. In the sketch above, he has studied the structure of a temple where two human figures that are in the act of offering their prayers have been depicted. The sketch has been executed in swift linear strokes of pen that accentuate the architectural structure of the temple
