This ornamental carving of two birds with their necks interlaced has been reproduced by Nandalal. He has executed the sketch in soft, linear strokes of the pen. The artist often made records of the decorative carvings on historical buildings as he had a deep appreciation for the rich sculptural and architectural productions of ancient and medieval India and frequently incorporated elements from them into his works.
