This ink drawing by Nandalal depicts a woman in a saree decorating a mud house, in loose, fluid strokes of the brush. The underlying pencil shading suggests that it has been rendered over a frottage impression - the technique of rubbing pencil on paper placed over a textured surface to get an impression of the motif below. The sketch portrays Nandalal's impulse to imitate the motif in its original form to enrich his knowledge of design and ornamental work.
