An Ornamental Design - Sketch from Sketch Book No.3 10175 Nandalal Bose Pencil on paper

×
This postcard depicts an alpana design (Bengali term for rangoli- a floor or wall decoration usually made with rice paste or flower petals) inspired by the shape of a lotus seed. Nandalal often encouraged his students at Santiniketan to participate in alpana making as he felt it was a collective participatory ritual that brought them together.
