This floral and geometric border pattern has been reproduced by Nandalal in this sketch as he undertook the study of indigenous traditions and practices in decorative art. He often made records of the ornamental carvings on historical buildings as Nandalal had a deep appreciation for the rich sculptural and architectural productions of medieval and classical India and frequently incorporated elements from them in his works.
