In this pencil sketch, Nandalal has reproduced several renditions of flower-motifs as executed on the Buddhist stupa relics in Bharhut, Madhya Pradesh, as the inscription indicates. He often made records of the ornamental carvings on historical buildings as Nandalal had a deep appreciation for the rich sculptural and architectural productions of ancient and medieval India and frequently incorporated elements from them into his works.
