In this pen and ink sketch, Nandalal has sketched a design (a stylised mango leaf motif consisting of various patterns) for Balucharee saree, rendered with linear, firm ink strokes, articulating the intricate design. He often made records of the ornamental carvings on historical buildings as Nandalal had a deep appreciation for the rich sculptural and architectural productions of ancient and medieval India and frequently incorporated elements from them into his works.
