In this pencil sketch, Nandalal has reproduced a floral border pattern from the buildings in the Qutub Minar complex in Delhi as part of his study of indigenous traditions and practices in decorative art. He often made records of the ornamental carvings on historical buildings as Nandalal had a deep appreciation for the rich sculptural and architectural productions of ancient and medieval India and frequently incorporated elements from them into his works.
