This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. These compositions were stripped to the bare minimum where only a few strokes of ink were employed to create natural forms in an effortless approach. The above painting belongs to the 'Sumi Paintings- A Landscape' series. The artist has executed a landscape with trees in the foreground and background, in fluid watercolour strokes with mere dabs and dashes, capturing the rhythm and pattern in the image.
