SUMI PAINTING-RAIN AND TREE 5392 Nandalal Bose Watercolor on Paper

×
This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. These compositions were stripped to the bare minimum where only a few strokes of ink were employed to create natural forms in an effortless approach. The above painting belongs to the 'Sumi Painting ? Rain and Tree' series. The artist has executed a tree and the rain, with two human figures sitting under the tree with a range of strokes in tonal variations capturing the rhythm and pattern in the image. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop
