This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being the 'Sun' executed from his memory and experiences. Although most of these paintings are in monochrome, Nandalal adds a hint of colour in the above painting of the sun. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose, children of Nandalal Bose.
