Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching and drawing, instantly recording in the postcard sized papers his subjects from the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life, animals, flora and fauna or anything he found fascinating. The above sketch is a study of a pigeon pea plant by the artist as suggested in the inscription. The plant is rendered with fluid, linear strokes articulating the outlines which are filled with dabs of light ochre colour. The strokes are delineated in the calligraphic style adding grace and vigour to the composition.
