    Nandalal Bose

Rama, Sita and Lakshman in the Forest, 1948 4985 Nandalal Bose Tempera on paper

×
Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this painting, he has depicted Rama, Lakshaman and Sita sitting beside their hut in the forest during their exile from the kingdom (referring to the scene from epic Ramayana). Rendered with the use of colours in tonal variation, delineating the contours of the figures and adding depth to the composition.
