Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this painting, he has depicted motherhood in the form of different living beings where the mother is feeding her child with tenderness. Rendered with the use of flat colours, delineating the contours of the figure and adding depth in the composition.
