Kanchanjangha 11499 Nandalal Bose Watercolor on Paper

×
In this painting Nandalal has rendered a view of Kanchanjangha. He has painted in deep tints of black, the distinctive shape of the mountains and used grey patches to give an impression of the mountain surrounded with mist. This painting is one of the landscapes in the monochrome ink wash technique, which is associated with specific Chinese and Japanese landscape traditions. It also recalls a statement from his book, 'Vision and Creation' on landscape painting, 'Landscapes can be painted in the manner of seas, with wavy heaps of stone and earth.'
