Nandalal in his artistic career sketched fervently with either pen or brush, subjects ranging from mythic and religious themes to nature and social realities. In the above sketch the artist has depicted a mythological scene where Lord Shiva is seated in Lalitasana, while other Hindu gods have come to meet the lord. The forms flying over the prancing clouds are rendered with linear, subdued pencil strokes executed in calligraphic style, articulating the contours and adding vigour to the composition.
